Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
What we collect
- Anonymous usage data: Page views, search queries (aggregated, not linked to individuals)
- Submissions: IP address (hashed after 30 days) when you submit a WiFi password
- Votes: IP address stored for 24 hours to prevent duplicate votes, then discarded
- Account data: Email and username if you create an account (optional)
- Device identifier (mobile app): The GetWifi iOS app generates a random device ID, not tied to your Apple ID or personal identity, sent with submissions, votes and reports to prevent spam and abuse
- Location (mobile app / "Near Me"): Your device's coordinates, sent only when you use "Near Me" search, to find WiFi venues around you
What we don't collect
- We do not store the location you share for "Near Me" search — it is used only to compute distances for that one request, then discarded
- We do not sell data to third parties
Advertising
The GetWifi website is supported by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to GetWifi and/or other sites on the Internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info. For more on how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see Google's Privacy & Terms.
WiFi Passwords
Passwords submitted to GetWifi are publicly visible. Only submit passwords for public/semi-public networks (airports, hotels, cafes) — never submit home or corporate network passwords.
Your Rights
You can request deletion of any content you submitted by contacting us. Account data can be deleted through your profile settings.
Cookies
We use a single first-party session cookie for login functionality. In addition, Google AdSense and its partners set third-party cookies to deliver and measure advertising, as described in the "Advertising" section above.
